A Day Spent at Khud
Eeman, EdTech Manager at Khud, shares her notes from her first visit to Khud’s partner school.
“On a bright sunny Monday morning, I decided to visit Khud’s Zahoor School on the outskirts of Lahore. The journey took me an hour and one of Khud’s students escorted me through the khaits (read: vegetation) to the school”.
She further said, “quite frankly, I was expecting to find a run down building with faulty equipment waiting for me at the other end. But I was surprised to see a colorful classroom with ten kids eagerly sitting at their desktop computers waiting to showcase all they’ve learnt”.
Eeman added, “Khud follows the self-learning model to provide digital literacy to the students free of cost. Some of the students were learning video editing and others were busy coding on Python. My instant reaction was disbelief because these skills are really difficult to learn. To which one of the students replied “Mushkil tou kuch bhi nai hota, agar mehnat ki jaye” (Nothing is really difficult if you work hard).
She continued, “The students at Zahoor School not only pleasantly surprised me with their work but also inspired me to look beyond petty issues. Their enthusiasm to learn reminded me to check my privilege every time I feel lazy and complain about work. My experience at Khud’s school was nothing short of amazing- I really hope this organisation goes from strength to strength”.
We wish Eeman good luck in her new venture.
