Interacting with the students at Khud School Mughalpura turned out to be the most rewarding “First Day at Work” experience for me. I was very eager to meet the kids, hear from them and most importantly give them a safe space and engage them in different activities while making sure that they have fun.

As soon as I entered the classroom and the moment I heard the students’ response to my greeting, I was energized to the point that I didn’t realize how time passed by. Considering my role as Communication Coach, I wanted to facilitate an environment of comfort and growth that works in the favour of the students and encourages them to learn by participating in the activities.

We started off the session with an activity called “Get to know my friend” with the objective of students getting energized, easing into the new classroom environment, taking an interest, listening actively and participating in the classroom. Even though I did not introduce myself formally before this activity, to my surprise, all of them responded to my instructions and participated in the activity very positively. The teachers and Khud team members also joined the kids in this ice-breaking activity. All the participants were paired with another fellow and they shared some interesting facts about themselves with their partners. Then, they had to introduce each other which they did very enthusiastically. This activity gave them a chance to talk to a friend and to the class of more than 15 people. Giving them an opportunity to speak and build their confidence.

The last activity of the day was my personal favourite; it is called “Six Words, One Story”. In his activity, every kid had to contribute a sentence to a story using their creativity. The class made up a story which also involved some of them talking about the first communication coaching session. This activity gave a chance to make the students understand the importance of cooperation and the results it can produce. The session ended with students sharing how they felt throughout the session and on the exciting note of students guessing what will happen in the next session

I was super delighted and inspired by the work of all the students; every moment was worth conducting the activities with the bunch of amazing students from grade 7 to 10 and then super talented bunch of 5 young girls. I believe fun based learning is the best way to learn where everyone really wants to contribute to the discussion and take part in the activity. This is how the students can grow to their maximum potential. I am excited to be part of this journey of growing together through learning communication skills.
